Popis: One central method of ethics is narrow reflective equilibrium, in which intuitions about moral principles and intuitions about concrete cases conflict, are refined, and ultimately accommodated by dropping individual commitments or other types of revisions until no more conflicts are present. In this paper, we present first empirical data on this method in the context of population ethics. We report an online experiment (n=600) in which participants are able to endorse any number of moral principles related to population ethics, are tasked with judging specific population ethical cases that may conflict with previously endorsed principles, and are in cases of conflict prompted to either revoke the principle, revise their intuition about a case, or continue with the conflict present.
