American children will be asked who different characters (nonimmigrants vs. immigrants vs. travelers) are like. Children will have the option to indicate that the characters are like people from Cortania, like people from Tamsena, like people from both fictional countries, or like people from neither fictional country. If children expect immigrants to maintain a dual identity, then they may match immigrants to both countries. The travelers (characters who go on vacation) are included to probe whether children understand that immigrants' dual identity is due to lasting connections with both countries, rather than any movement/association. |
