Popis: | Multiple factors put pregnant women at risk for preterm labor. Some of these factors are obvious whereas others are more subtle. Some of these factors are more frequently present and put the patient at greater risk than others. Identification of these factors is only the first step in eliminating preterm births. Previous preterm delivery and previous preterm labor put the patient at the highest risk for recurrent preterm labor. Antenatal bleeding and chronic urinary tract infection occur frequently but seem to be associated with a lower likelihood of preterm labor. The importance of bacterial vaginosis, maternal anemia, substance abuse, and coitus as risk factors is currently being evaluated. |
