Popis: The initial steps of photosynthesis comprise the absorption of light and excitation energy transfer in a light-harvesting antenna with a subsequent excitation trapping by a reaction center where a charge separation is started (1). In purple photosynthetic bacteria the light-harvesting antenna consists of a peripheral antenna (LH2) and a core antenna (LH1) that directly surround the reaction centers. Transient absoprption studies have shown an anomalously high dipole strength of the bleached transitions reflecting highly delocalized exciton states within the LH2 and LH1 antennae (2-6).
