Popis: This study examines how social daydreaming (thinking about others) can mitigate loneliness. Previous research has suggested that social daydreaming decreases the level of loneliness (Poerio, Totterdell, Emerson, & Miles, 2016). However, the current evidence is limited in two aspects: one is the lack of comparisons of the loneliness mitigation effect of social daydreaming with other social actions that substantially decrease loneliness, such as face-to-face social interactions. The other is the lack of classification for the target of social daydreaming (acquaintances or fictitious characters) that could increase or decrease loneliness in different ways. We will conduct year-long longitudinal research, including both online and experience sampling method (ESM) surveys, to explain the effect of social daydreaming on loneliness.
