Popis: β-Carbonic anhydrases (β-CAs) are a diverse group of zinc metalloenzymes that are found in plants, eubacteria, algae, and archaea. These enzymes are structurally similar and catalyze the interconversion of CO2 and H2O to HCO−3 and H+. These enzymes are known to be essential for the growth of various microorganisms at different concentrations of CO2 and are the only CA class that displays allosteric regulation. This chapter will summarize the distribution, biochemistry, structural features, and allosteric regulation of β-CAs.
