Popis: Up to the early 1980s, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) was considered a treatment-refractory, chronic condition of psychological origins. The management of OCD consisted of dynamic psychotherapy, which was of little benefit, and several pharmacological treatments which had been tried without much success (Salzman and Thaler 1981). However, two findings have substantially changed this field: several researchers have reported that OCD might be a prevalent disorder (Robins et al. 1984; Weissman et al. 1994), and numerous studies have reported the efficacy of various specific therapies for this disorder. Today, OCD is believed to be biologically driven and to be highly treatable by serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SRI).
