Psychiatric Intervention in Children: Sex Differences in Referral Rates

Popis:	A comparison of the male/female referral rate for psychiatric treatment was undertaken for the years 1973 and 1983. Findings indicated that in 1973 males outnumbered females approximately 3 to 1, which is consistent with the literature on sex differences in psychopathology. The year 1983 saw a significant increase in the number of females referred for treatment. Possible reasons for this change are considered in terms of society's increasing androgynous orientation. Implications for further research are discussed.
