It was established, in order, to promote economic growth in Brazil in a sustainable way. His theoretical and methodological foundation is based on landscape dynamics analysis. Throughout the development of its methodology technicians of the Brazilian Government and researchers involved sought to establish greater weight to social, legal and institutional factors, making it thus a totally based zoning in biotic and abiotic aspects of the landscape for a zoning that incorporates the dynamics of the territory and the construction of geographical space. This work presents the historical context in which the Ecological-Economical Zoning was established, the legal frameworks that regulate it and its basic methodological guidelines. It presents also the status of implementation of various SEZ projects by the Federal Government and the States of the Federation. Presents, even briefly the Ecological-Economical Zoning of Legal Amazon, the first of the projects under the responsibility of the Federal Government to complete and standardized, and perhaps most important of them, because of what the Amazon rainforest is to Brazil, for South America and the world.
