As one of the complex traditional agroforestry systems, the home garden is suitable to fulfil the ecological and socio-economy functions. Home gardens in Pujon Sub-district are currently facing serious threats. Due loss of traditional knowledge mainly because of globalization and rural tourism development. On the other hand, research and documentation about are very limited. The present study thus attempted to assess plant diversity and uses the home garden in Pujon. In total 90 home gardens were selected purposively. In total, 447 different plants in local named with trees (15%), shrubs (27%), herbs (52%), palms (2%), and climbers (4%) were recorded belonging 94 families. Thirteen use categories of home garden plants were recorded. There are 37.8% were ornamental plants, 10.9% were fruits, 8.1% were vegetables, 7.7% were medicinal plants, 7.2% were for ritual and spiritual, 6.7% were forages, 5.9% were weeds and grasses, 4.9% were beverage, 2.6 % were for living fence, 2.6% were for home material, 2.4% were spices and condiment, 1.8% natural food dyes and 1.5 % were primary and secondary foods. It can be conducted that home gardens in Pujon are rich in plants diversity and have an important role for indigenous people. |
