Popis: Hexoloy SX, a new member of Carborundum's silicon carbide family of materials, has been demonstrated to possess better strength and toughness than those of its parent Hexoloy SA silicon carbide. Typical values of room temperature four-point bend strength and SENB toughness of post-HIP'ed Hexoloy SX range from 621 to 827 MPa (90-120 ksi) and 8 to 10 MPa m exp 1/2, respectively. These room temperature mechanical properties are comparable to the best of silicon nitride materials available, but at a significantly lower raw material cost. Moreover, preliminary results also show Hexoloy SX to have excellent creep, wear, and erosion resistance. 14 refs.
