Popis: | Several samples of coals taken from seams east of the Mississippi River were analyzed for S content to try and determine the distribution of S in coal and to utilize this information to improve S reduction in coal by mechanical means. The samples taken were analyzed for S content by nitric acid extraction and the resuls of total, pyritic, and organic S content appear in tables throughout the report. Also included in the report are diagrams of the horizontal distribution of the inorganic, pyritic, and total S found in samples of the No. 6 coal bed from southern Illinois. It was noted that the vertical distribution of the organic S was generally uniform whereas the pyritic S concentrations were found to be highly irregular. |
