Popis:	Introduction: Type I Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a multifactorial disease involving immune response, genetics and the environment. The use of medicinal plants for treatment and prevention of disease is very common; noni (Morinda citrifolia) is an example of one. Objective: To study the effect caused on the kidney, liver and spleen of rats with type I diabetes receiving a daily supplement of noni juice. Methods: A total of 21 rats were divided into three groups of seven animals each: group G0 – healthy animals not receiving the supplement; G1 – type I DM type animals receiving the supplement and G2 – type I DM type animals not receiving the supplement. Results: The spleen and liver showed no pathological changes in any group. Type I diabetic animals not receiving the supplement showed a slight thickening of the glomerular basement membrane. Conclusion: The use of noni juice for a period equal to thirty days does not cause pathological changes in the spleen and liver, but type I diabetic rats receiving the supplement appear to benefit from a nephroprotective effect.
