Popis: Previous experiments showed that individuals rely on perceived distance in order to deduce expertise. Participants ascribed more expertise related to an object to others if the distance between the respective person and the object was short. Large distances between both entities yielded significantly lower expertise ratings. So far, we solely investigated the spatial dimension (cf. Trope & Liberman, 2003, 2010). Thus, one aim of the present experiment is to investigate the effect of a manipulation of temporal distance on expertise assessments. Under the premise that expertise is a function of perceived (temporal) distance, distance would therefore be a relevant variable related to persuasion. For that reason, another goal of the current study is to explore whether distance perception affects attitude formation.
