Previous research has shown that stereotypes are formed for attributes that have large intergroup differences (Ford & Stangor, 1992) and that there may be an attention shifting mechanism that accounts for learning about the traits of social groups (Sherman et al., 2009). The present study is a conceptual replication of Ford and Stangor (1992) and examines if perceivers use attributes with greater mean differences to distinguish between individual targets. This study is one of three that examines if the methodology used to examine learning of group attributes can describe the learning of individual people. |
