Metabolic alterations after total-body doses of X-irradiation

Popis:	The rapidly labeled RNA fraction was extracted from 24-hour regenerating livers of partially hepatectomized rats. The profiles of optical density and radioactivity of the RNA obtained from nonirradiated animals were compared with those obtained from animals receiving 600, 1000, and 1500 roentgens of whole-body irradiation 6 hours prior to sacrifice. The results demonstrate that X-irradiation interferes with the incorporation of orotic acid-C 14 into the rapidly labeled RNA. These findings were correlated with the effect of X-irradiation on the biosynthesis of thymidylic kinase and DNA polymerase.
