Popis: | Interest in the etiolgy and possible treatment of azoospermia caused by obstruction of the vasoepididymal ductal system prompted a study of 1 23 patients presenting with complete azoospermia and in whom surgical ex ploration or corrective surgery was performed. The causes for azoosperm ia included bilateral congenital absence of the epididymes bilateral failure of anastomic union between the vas and the epididymis bilateral absence of both vasa with anomalies of the epididymes bilateral epididy mitis due to a nonspecific organism and inadvertant bilateral surgical ligation of the vasa deferentia during operation of some other problem. Of 30 men who had undergone vasectomy and who exhibited reasonably satisfactory anatomic conditions to permit reanastomosis a 63% success rate was found. Vasoepididymal anastomoses yielded only an 8-10% success rate in restoring fertility. Results had both optimistic and pessimistic phases. Continued and widespread study concerning restorati on of fertility to more patients is needed. |
