Popis: Introduction Injuries are the most common cause of morbidity and mortality among children and young people for many years. In comparison, other diseases, such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases, are unfortunately relatively rare in epidemiological research. Aim To determine the incidence of injuries in the general population of patients in the years 2011–2012 reported to the Emergency Department. An important aspect was to characterize groups of children most threatened with the injuries and to consider the problem in the context of the seasonal character. Material and Methods The research analyzed the medical documentations of all Emergency Department's patients hospitalized in the Children's University Hospital in Bialystok who were admitted to a branch in the 2011–2012 years. Results Musculoskeletal injuries, head injuries, abdominal injuries, multiple traumatic injuries and burns were the causes of almost half of all submissions over two years (about 44%). Nearly 60% of injuries are injuries of musculoskeletal and 33% of notifications were a head injury. The boys had the traumas relatively frequently (60%). Newborns were admitted mostly because of musculoskeletal injuries (61.5%), the infants below the first year after birth – because of head injuries (69,1%) among the 1–6-year-olds musculoskeletal injuries and head injuries were comparable, the oldest children – because of musculoskeletal (71.1% to 67.0%) injuries. Conclusions The most affected by injuries are boys in school-age. The need to increase oversight of this group of children is the result of it. The occurrence of sudden bad health from the individual reasons is dependent on the current season of the year (season severity of diseases and disorders). A general increase of the number of health care benefits provided in the emergency department notes in spring, the increase due to injuries – especially in May and June.
