Popis: | The thermal behavior of the Apollo cryogenic gas storage system is directly related to gravity because of stratification effects. Several interesting things happen when this system is operated in the near-zero-gravity environment of orbital and translunar flight. Stratification is very evident when the thermal performance is analyzed and compared with ground test data. Pressure is inclined to decay somewhat when sudden mixing occurs. Small inaccuracies in the quantity gage readings as a result of stratification have been observed. The single point temperature sensors located within the center of these tanks consistently indicate temperatures which are higher than the calculated equilibrium fluid temperature. |
