Popis: | In terms of the number of shells, domes can be grouped into single-shell, double-shell (continuous or discontinuous) and triple-shell types. Discontinuous double-shell domes have distinctive geometric features. Examinations of such domes can provide better solutions to restore them more effectively. The present study aims to examine the structural details of these domes and to find the factors affecting them. Data was gathered based on library sources and field studies. Several typical domes in Isfahan and Nain, two regions in the center of Iran, were chosen. The results showed that the characteristics and structure and the shape of the domes were under the influence of certain factors the most important of which were materials, geometric considerations and the architects’ skills. Structural similarities and differences of the connecting parts between the two shells in the two regions helped to reveal the existence of two distinct styles namely “Isfahani” and “Naini”. |
