Post-intubation tracheal stenosis (PITS) is a distressing cause of morbidity and mortality in patients who underwent intubation, tracheotomy or both. Despite improvement in materials (low-pressure cuffs), PITS remains a common problem which may be difficult to diagnose. Surgical resection with end-to-end anastomosis is the treatment of choice. However, because of temporary or definitive contraindications to open surgery, alternative therapeutic modalities are to be considered in a number of patients. |
