Popis: Numerical simulations of the turbulent flow surrounding a high speed train are carried out at SNCF (French Railways) using the commercial code Star CD. The numerical methodology developed consists in building the complete detailed topology of a train with basic blocks. The validation of the method is done through a comparison with wind tunnel experiments. A globally good agreement is found concerning the drag estimation of a short trainset. Predictions of mean streamwise velocity and turbulent kinetic energy show the quite satisfactory capabilities of the methodology.Copyright © 2002 by ASME
