Improved control strategy for a stand-alone DFIG under unbalanced load conditions

Popis: This paper proposes an improved control strategy to regulate the stator voltage in stand-alone system based on doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) operating under unbalanced load conditions. This type of load results in unbalance of the stator voltage and current with subsequent power quality degradation and electromagnetic torque pulsations. The proposed control strategy uses the load-side converter (LSC) for the purpose of fully reject negative sequence of the stator voltage; this is achieved by employing proportional-resonant controllers (PRCs) for the closed loop stator voltage regulation built in the stationary reference frame without any rotating coordinate transformation and the sequence decomposition process. As a result, symmetrical AC voltage is applied to the stator terminal, which indicates that the rotor-side converter (RSC) can be still controlled with the traditional vector control strategy. Presented simulation results show that the proposed control scheme can eliminate effectively harmonics in the stator voltage and reduce the torque pulsations.
