Popis: Reaction of rhenium pentachloride and pyridine with potassium - potassium iodide followed by a heating of the nonvolatile reduction residue with trimethyl phosphite gave Re2 [P(OCH3)3]10. A minor co-product was HRe [P (OCH3)3]5 which presumably was generated from a radical intermediate like Re [P (OCH3)3]4 or 5 by a hydrogen atom abstraction from the organic reagents. Both Re2 [P(OCH3)3]10 and HRe [P(COH3)3]5 exhibited a nearly first order AB431P{1H} NMR spectrum. Neither complex showed the extreme photosensitivity (photodissociation of phosphite ligand) shown by W [P(OCH3)3]6 but the dimer was easily converted to the hydride by reaction with hydrogen.
