Popis: Integrated Circuits (ICs) are the brains in a wide range of Electronic Control Units (ECUs) in automotive systems. Counterfeit ECUs exploited by an unauthorized third-party can affect the car's overall performance despite the fact that we have proper hardware security modules in place. Automotive ECUs have traditionally been secured by isolating them within the hardware architecture stack. Consequently, the vehicle's attack surface is limited and it is hard for an attacker to synchronize an attack against the vehicle system. Unfortunately, fraudulent replica of ECU units may be overlooked and they can make their way into the car's CAN bus drivetrain network causing serious threats to the general public safety. A novel solution for the ECU counterfeit problem is proposed, which stems from the use of ECU fingerprint using Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) and the implementation of the Defense in Depth (DiD) model. Implementation effort using hardware Proof of Concept Circuit is under its way and it is in its final stage.
