Popis: | Amorphous carbon (a-C) that has been shown to be highly tetrahedral by neutron-scattering techniques is examined by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. There are clear indications of an amorphous structure, characterized by 02 nm periodicities, and this is distinctly different from the structure seen in evaporated a-C. Thin regions, near the edges of the foil, resemble a-C, however, and show periodicities nearer to the interlayer spacing in graphite. A number of crystalline and microcrystalline inclusions that are not representative of the intrinsic structure of the material are observed, and these include some uncommon crystalline forms of carbon. |
