At this rate of rainforest and other ecosystem loss, some authorities believe that between 1 and 5 million species of animals and plants could become extinct in the next two decades. There are hundreds of species of known plants and animals on the Appendix 1 list of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) at this time. |
