Popis: The Ash Creek tidal estuary is one of the few remaining tidal estuaries in southwest Connecticut that is relatively undeveloped. Located in Bridgeport and Fairfield, Connecticut, it provides a tremendous number of important ecological functions, serving as a sanctuary for nesting birds, shellfish, and finfish. It also contains a large amount of unditched Spartina marshland. In addition to its wildlife and plant habitat, the estuary provides many other services to the community. It provides surrounding areas with flood control, shoreline stabilization from its tidal wetland vegetation, an opportunity for recreation, and an aesthetic identity that contributes to higher property values, and ultimately a higher quality of life.
