Popis: Dr Cersonsky is not alone with his concerns about the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations. (Of note, new recommendations were published in the February 1996 issue of Pediatrics. 1 ) The purpose of our study 2 was not to take sides in supporting the recommendations or supporting the many practitioners who have not adhered to them but to highlight the gap between guideline recommendation and its implementation. As we stated, "In this age of practice guidelines and recommendations, we must remember that their usefulness is limited unless they are embraced and implemented by practicing physicians." 2 We hope that our study encourages dialogue with community physicians regarding the recommendations and would encourage response from the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Infectious Diseases and other practitioners.
