Popis: The Lorenz Cipher Machine provided a means of communication which was used exclusively by the German Army High Command during the second world war. At Bletchley Park the cipher traffic generated by this machine, was called "Fish", and the different radio communication links used were given appropriate names e.g. "Tunny", "Bream", "Tarpon" etc. These cipher messages consisted of sequences of characters based on the International Teleprinter code. The transmissions were not made in Morse, but used a carrier wave modulated by six audio frequency tones, three for each of the two basic symbols used; these two basic symbols were referred to as "cross" and "dot" at Bletchley. In the teleprinter code, each character is represented by a sequence of five of these basic symbols, so that in all, the system provides for a total of thirty two distinct characters. Twenty six of these are used to represent the standard letters of the alphabet, and five for the "control characters".
