Popis: Water is the essence of life and it occupies almost two-thirds of the Earth in various forms such as oceans, seas, rivers, lakes, aquifers, and groundwater. The change in the quality of water due to human activities in the name of globalization is water pollution. Continuous release of industrial products, pharmaceuticals, personal care products, chemical laboratory disposals, etc., changes the biological, chemical, and physical properties of water resulting into detrimental consequences to living organisms. Among all of these contaminants, nanomaterials and microplastics are two broad categories of contaminants that cause severe damage to the water quality. Due to their superior physicochemical properties, new nanomaterials and microplastics are being made in chemical laboratories at an unstoppable rate thereby increasing the chances of disposal into soil and water. In this chapter, a comprehensive analysis is done of nanomaterial- and microplastic-based water pollution and their potential health risk assessment.
