Popis: The eleventh volume ofAdvances in Oto-rhinolaryngologycontains contributions by three Swiss authors, the first two of which should be of great interest to the American reader. Part 1, "Functional Aural Surgery of Traumatic Lesions of the Middle Ear," is a noteworthy and timely contribution by Escher, an authority on inner ear trauma. In this article he presents a well-illustrated discussion of traumatic middle ear lesions, and he stresses early exploration in order to restore middle ear function. Recent advances in developing alloplastic substitutes for missing ossicles or transposition techniques are not included. The case histories are short, to the point, and of interest to the otologist. Chapter six, which contains the etiology and treatment of posttraumatic cholesteatoma, is excellent. Part 2 "Tracheotomy—Complications and Late Sequelae," is a scholarly written article by von Schulthess. The early and late complications arising after tracheotomy are discussed from the viewpoint of the clinician
