Receptor antagonists of the endogenous peptide CCK have potential therapeutic utility for the treatment of a number of gastrointestinal and central nervous system disorders. This article reviews recent developments in the general area of CCK receptor/ligand research. Particular emphasis is placed on the potent, selective, orally active nonpeptide antagonists. Important aspects of the medicinal chemistry and pharmacology of these agents are described. Recent advances in CCK receptor molecular biology which are providing information on ligand-receptor interactions are discussed. |
