Integral total ionisation and collision cross sections of He*(21S)-Xe and He*(23S)-Xe have been measured in the CM collision energy range 3-220 meV. Optical potentials are fitted to the data. The potential form of Siska (1984) is used for the real part of the potential. The imaginary part of the potential for the triplet system is purely exponential, whereas the pronounced decline of the high energy ionisation of the singlet system requires a drastic reduction of the imaginary part at small distances. Physical reasons for this behaviour are discussed. |
