Popis: Every teacher of mathematics is familiar with the principle of “casting out nines.” The principle is based on the fact that when any number is divided by nine, the remainder obtained is the same as that obtained when the sum of the digits of the number is divided by nine. For example, on dividing 75,808 by nine, we obtain a quotient of 8,429 with a remainder of 7, the latter number being the same as the remainder obtained when the sum of the digits of the dividend, namely 34, is divided by nine.
