Popis:	Despite our boasts of scientific open-mindedness, political scientists are no more likely than other human beings to admit mistakesparticularly when the mistakes have appeared in print. In this essay Professor Herz handsomely retracts some of his previously stated ideas. In view of other writings-those of Arnold Toynbee, for instance-readers may believe that Professor Herz was right the first time; on the other hand, thinkers like Toynbee may merely be the victims of "wishfully hoping" that the nation-state is dying. In any case, POLITY believes that what Professor Herz presents here is an interesting and provocative thesis.
