Growing research suggests that diet, physical activity, sleep, tobacco smoking, and alcohol use are associated with depression and anxiety risk. These lifestyle behaviours are related and may cluster together. Therefore, studying these behaviours independently of each other may not accurately represent the additive or synergistic effects between multiple lifestyle behaviours. Additionally, observing individuals who follow similar behavioural patterns and characteristics allows researchers to assess the association between behavioural clusters and the presence and severity of mental disorders. Therefore, the aim of this study is to assess the underlying patterns of lifestyle behaviours (diet, physical activity, sleep, alcohol use, and smoking) in the Wave 6 NEtherlands Study of Depression and Anxiety (NESDA) cohort, and cross-sectionally assess how these patterns are associated with the presence and severity of depression and anxiety. |
