The demand for liquefied-natural-gas-fueled tanks on ships is growing in accordance with IMO 2020 regulations. The use of high manganese steel has increased recently, as this material can be applied at cryogenic service temperatures according to IGF code and has economic advantages over other materials. In this study, the high heat input welding process, which involves one-side submerged arc welding (SAW) welding with cut wire, is investigated to increase the productivity of high manganese fuel tank welding. The Flux cored arc welding and SAW welding processes are also evaluated and compared with the high heat input welding process. The mechanical properties of high manganese steel satisfied the class requirements and no precipitates were found in the weldment and heat-affected zone. |
