Popis: | The problem of molecular associations between lipids and pigments in photosynthetic membranes of Rhodospirillum rubrum strain S-1, is examined in the present work. The method consists in mild extraction of lipids from freeze-dried membranes with a sequence of solvents of increasing polarity. The results underline the peculiarity of chromatophore membranes when compared with chloroplastic membranes: complete absence of galactolipids, sulfolipids and phosphatidylcholine (PC), strength of the binding of bacteriochlorophyll to the membrane structures, homogeneity of the acyl residues distribution in the sequential classes of phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) and of phosphatidylglycerol (PG), heterogeneity of the diphosphatidylglycerol (DPG). Finally, it appears that bacteriochlorophyll and PG are the only readily isosoluble components from the chromatophore preparations. In conclusion, the role of such a phospholipid in stabilizing the pigment molecules when the glycolipids are not present, as in many photosynthetic procaryotes, is discussed. |
