Popis: X-ray laser action has been studied in a laser-produced plasma composed of germanium atoms ionized to the neonlike state. Laser gains of up to 4.1 cm−1 at 232 Å (1 Å = 10−10 m) were measured. The effect of driver laser parameters such as intensity on target, pulse duration, and pulse rise time have been studied so as to understand the requirements for increased efficiency.
