Popis: | A variety of documents, mostly from European institutions, highlight the complexity of the issues involved in cultural and language diversity in education, which, regrettably, are treated, as is so often the case with these matters in Spain, in a very simplistic way. This simplicity notwithstanding, these documents describe conceptual tools for analysing language teaching situations and organising language education according to principles promoting acceptance of linguistic and cultural diversity and differences. Although the paper addresses these issues, due to space limitations, it focuses only on two essential aspects of cultural and language diversity in educational contexts: the need for the individual to appreciate the true value of plurilingualism and the need for educational institutions and society at large to take on the responsibility for its appreciation. |
