Popis: | The role of neuromodulators, viz. histamine and 5- hydroxytryptamine in aspirin (200 mg/kg, oral) induced gastric ulcers was studied by pretreating the rats with their specific antagonists; promethazine (10 mg/kg), ranitidine (20 mg/kg) and cyproheptadine (5 and 10 mg/kg), intraperitoneally, one hour prior to aspirin administration. Promethazine and ranitidine failed to produce any effect on gastric ulcers caused by aspirin. Cyproheptadine, however, produced dose related protective effect on aspirin induced gastric ulcers which suggested the involvement of 5-hydroxytryptamine in gastric ulcers induced by aspirin. |
