Popis: | Epidemiological studies investigate the occurrence of disease in populations. The frequencies with which diseases occur are described in terms of their prevalence and incidence. Prevalence refers to the proportion of a defined population with a disease within a specified time period. Prevalence measures are useful for assessing the size of a problem or level of burden in a given population and potential service needs. Incidence refers to the rate at which new cases occur within a specified time. Such measures can indicate whether an epidemic is in progress (e.g. rise in new cases) or whether prevention programmes are working (e.g. fall in new cases). |
