Popis: Publisher Summary This chapter reviews the basic codes and standards that affect many companies to one extent or another. Fire systems are code driven and overseen by the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ). Everyone must protect Social Security numbers, personal data of employees, and their company's sensitive information—such as products under development or trade secrets. The health care industry is an example of an industry that has very strict requirements for securing patient's data. In fact, this industry is driven by the Health Information Protection Act (HIPA) requirements. All industries must protect data, even though they may not be in as strict an environment as the health care industry. All industries have insurance carriers that set requirements. Most large companies are self-insured to some level and have a carrier like Factory Mutual (FM) that develops proposed modifications to company facilities to mitigate losses. These carriers often visit the company locations and make suggestions/requests to address certain issues—especially fire-related issues.
