Popis:	The aim of this review is to examine the literature relevent to the hydrolysis of cellulose in lignocellulosic materials. It is a complex process involving the nature of the cellulose itself and its association with other substances such as lignin and hemicellulose, as well as a multicomponent enzyme system which appears to be able to hydrolyze the cellulose in at least two ways. Any process to convert this cellulose to monomeric glucose requires both pretreatment and hydrolysis steps. The two steps are interdependent and it is not practical to study them in isolation. 350 references.
