Popis: Background The purpose of this study was to develop an infection prevention and control (IPAC) competency for Korean infection control nurses (ICNs). Methods To develop the IPAC competency, literature review and focus-group interviews were conducted. The core competency domain of Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology was borrowed to develop the IPAC of Korean ICNs. Two-session delphi survey and expert validity reviews were conducted to evaluate validity and reliability. And then 174 ICNs’ importance-performance survey were conducted. Classification of IPAC by clinical ladder was carried out by 14 experts. Results The final ICNs’ competency consisted of 7 competency domains, 23 sub-competency, and 135 behavioral indicators. In Korea, the ICNs’ clinical ladder was classified into novice and proficient/expert. Behavioral indicators by clinical ladder identified 66 for novices, and 135 for the proficient/expert respectively. In the clinical validity test of the IPAC competency model for ICNs, the importance score was 4.34 in novice, 4.47 in proficient/expert, and all behavioral indicators were > 3.75. Cronbach`s α of ICNs’ importance scale was .973 in novice, and .990 in proficient/expert. It was finalized without modification. Conclusions It was the first in Korea to develop the IPAC of ICNs considering the domestic health care environment. It can be used as a basic data for the development of IPAC based education program and the construction of a human resource management system for ICNs.
