Popis: | Tucson Electric Power (TEP) is planning construction of a new substation in Tucson, Pima County, Arizona. This work will include the installation of two buried electric lines and a new steel power pole and overlaps portions of the proposed construction area. Previous examination of the site surface (Ruble 2005a) suggested the potential for buried archaeological features at the site. At that time, the site was considered eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (National Register). The results of Phase 1 data recovery are presented in this report. Substantial trenching of the substation site and the associated utility easements identified only four archaeological features— three small pits of unknown age without artifacts and a deflated rock pile on the surface. Given the paucity of features and the very low density of artifacts in features or on the surface, it is no longer considered eligible for inclusion in the National Register. It is recommended by Desert Archaeology, Inc., that the proposed work by TEP proceed without further archaeological investigations of the area. |
