Popis: A review of some of the past and of present theories and experiments in areas of static fatigue of hydrated Portland cement mortar and concrete is presented in this paper. The effect of relative humidity and temperature on the ability of concrete beams to carry a constant load has been given little attention in the past. Present results indicate that the time to failure decreases with increased relative humidity and lower temperatures. Extensive material on glass is also presented and parallels between chemical attack on glass and concrete are studied. At the present time there are no extensive all inclusive theories to explain the effect of the temperature or relative humidity dependence on the time to failure.
