Popis:	The adult male and female of Melanagromyza amaranthi n. sp. and its puparia from the State of Tachira, Venezuela are described. Besides the State of Tachira the fly has also been collected in the States of Aragua and Merida, at an altitude range from 400 to 1,600 metres The host plant, Amaranthus dubius Mart. ex Thell., is common throughout Venezuela and it has been collected at an altitude range from 120 to 1,800 metres.
