Organic reducers of viscosity as regulators of the physicomechanical properties of slips of kaolins and clays

Popis: The co-workers of the Forest Technology Academy have devised a theory of action of organic re ducers of viscosity applicable to aqueous suspensions of montmorillonite and have shown that the best viscosity reducers are organic compounds having o-polyhydroxybenzene and ionogenic groups in their composition. Organic reducers are chemically bound by their o:-dihydroxybenzene hydroxyls with the hydroxyls of the elementary crystal of bentonite or other member of the montmorillonite group (Fig. 1), whereas the ionogenic group of the reducer is surrounded by a hydrate shell, preventing adhesion of montmorillonite crystals [1].
